FILM LOANS TO PATIENTS
In compliance with MGH and the Dept. of Radiology/ISC policy, the patient’s original radiographic images/studies are not released to the patient for his/her personal use. The original radiographic images/studies are the property of Massachusetts General Hospital. However, the original radiographic images/studies may be released to the patient to hand carry or send to his/her non-affiliated MGH physician or healthcare facility.
The customer/patient must provide the Department of Radiology/ISC with the name and address of the physician or the healthcare facility where the radiographic images are designated. This may be done by mail, or fax, (617) 724-0264. If requesting in person the form, "Authorization for Furnishing Medical Images to Third Parties" must be signed.
Films are sent 1st class. For faster delivery we will send films by FedEx if provided with a credit card or Fed Ex account number. To help us provide optimum service, please call ahead. All original films loaned to patients to take to their physicians must be returned to the ISC within 30 days. Copies do not need to be returned.
COPIES OF IMAGES
For a fee, the patient can receive copies of their images. MRI, CT and PET studies are $40 per study. All others are $15 per study. *Payment must be received before copies can be made. We accept cash, checks, and money orders. Checks should be made out to Massachusetts General Hospital. A receipt will be given upon request. Please call ahead for copies of images since the process can take as long as an hour or more depending on the number of requests received.
(*CD's - the preferred method - contain images as well as reports - available for $15.00)

VIEWING DIGITAL IMAGES ON-LINE USING CAS
As of December 14, 1998 CT’s are no longer routinely printed. Rather, they may be viewed on a PACS workstation or on a PC which has Clinical Applications Suite or CAS software installed. CAS is a results reporting application and includes the ability to view images at the desktop. Images may be printed to paper from a properly outfitted workstation. CAS is accessible on all Partners Win 95 workstations to those with the proper password and authorization. This new, exciting tool can be viewed in the ISC. For information on hardware requirements or for installation and training, please contact Brian Murphy at beeper 30581.
FILM RETURNS
Film loans to MGH physicians or physician offices are valid for 24 hours only. It is the responsibility of the physician office / clinic to return studies in a timely fashion. Helping us to recover these studies as quickly as possible assures that there is efficient and prompt processing for all caregivers’ requests. Copies of images do not need to be returned. A copy may be identified by a white label reading "copies".
OUTSIDE FILMS
Films from outside institutions are not stored in the ISC. Such films may be temporarily held for comparison readings or treatment, but must be returned to their original institutions after being used. Outside films are the responsibility of the requesting physician and must be returned by his or her office.
