GRAY / BIGELOW (GRB) 285 Michael H. Lev, MD, Director Javier M. Romero, MD, Associate Director The Neurovascular Laboratory provides evaluation of the extra-cranial common and internal carotid arteries, and vertebral arteries, using color flow, pulsed and continous wave Doppler and B-mode ultrasound. Appropriate patients for study are those with bruits; risks factors for stroke disease; transient ischemic attacks of the brain or eye; and recent or remote stroke. Transcranial and transorbital Doppler studies of the intra-cranial vasculature are also performed to assess the following arterial segments: carotid siphon; proximal anterior and middle cerebrals; distal vertebrals; proximal basilar; proximal posterior cerebrals; and proximal ophthalmic. Appropriate patients are those with visual disturbances or brain events that may be on an ischemic basis, especially if the carotid non-invasive studies are normal, including those with syncope or dizziness. We also perform testing for subclavian steal syndrome, temporal arteritis, and assessment of sickle cell disease. In conjunction with pediatric radiology (Dr. Ellen Grant), we can also provide assessment of the intracranial venous system in neonates.
