The following guidelines apply to all members of the Department of Radiology while on duty, regardless of job title, job description and work area. These guidelines support the Massachusetts General Hospital Policy.
All employees of the Department of Radiology are required to wear their MGH Identification Badges at all times. Badges should be worn on one’s shirt, blouse or jacket so that the name and picture are clearly visible.
- All jean pants and shirts, (this includes any type of denim regardless of color), sweat shirts, cut offs, shorts, and sport wear apparel are considered unacceptable and will not be allowed anywhere in the Department of Radiology.
- Scrub uniforms (dresses, pants, and tops) are available for all clinical staff who work in areas where contamination of one’s personal clothing is possible.
- All employees who have direct patient contact and do not wear scrubs are required to wear either a white laboratory coat or a white laboratory jacket where appropriate.
- Socks or stockings are required to be worn with shoes. Shoes of respectable quality and cleanliness are expected to be worn by all members of the Department. For safety reasons, open toed shoes and sandals are not to be worn.
- For men who do not wear scrubs, shirts with collars and ties are required. Ties should be tucked into shirts in areas where there is the potential for ties to become caught in machinery.
- Revealing clothing such as low cut blouses or tops, see through clothing or extremely tight fitting or short clothing is unacceptable.
- Jewelry that could be hazardous to patients or employees should be avoided. For example, long necklaces can become caught in machinery.
- No hats are allowed in the department. If hair covering is required, it must be standard hospital issue, for example scrub caps.
- Other specific dress requirements or uniforms may apply to certain positions within the Department of Radiology. If you are unsure of the specific dress requirements in your area, ask a supervisor or fellow employee.
