ASSESS

Assess your patient using the Pre-Transfer Safety Screen:

• Does your patient need a cardiac monitor?
• Does your patient have an artificial airway (endotracheal or tracheostomy tube)?
• Does your patient require mechanical ventilation (invasive or noninvasive)?
• Does your patient require >50% oxygen to maintain SpO2 above 90%?
• Does your patient receive continuous infusions?
• Is your patient disoriented, unable to communication or comatose?
• Is your patient totally or significantly physically dependent for care?

These questions can help determine your patient’s capacity for safe travel and possible need for a clinical escort.
